How Laser Hair Removal Works
Laser hair removal is a medical esthetic procedure that uses a concentrated beam of laser light to target unwanted hair. The melanin in the hair follicles absorbs this light, which is then converted into heat. The heat damages the hair follicle, inhibiting or delaying future hair growth. Difference Between Laser & IPL
Were you aware that an IPL device differs greatly from a hair removal laser? IPL is designed as a photorejuvenation device primarily targeting pigmentation. Those who use it for hair removal often experience much less success compared to a genuine laser technology.
- Lasers are far more precise and can selectively target dark, coarse hair while leaving the surrounding areas undamaged.
- Each laser pulse takes a fraction of a second and can treat several hairs at a time.
- Laser settings can be adjusted to suit your specific skin tone and hair colour.
- Lasers have the capability to safely treat all skin colours, whereas IPLs can cause burn on darker skin types.
How To Prepare For Laser Hair Removal:
- Shave area 24 to 48 hours before your treatment
- Avoid UV exposure, and tanning for 4 weeks before your treatment
- Avoid self tanning products 2 weeks before your treatment
- Do not tweeze or wax 4 weeks before your treatment
What To Expect:
During your consultation, you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire. Our certified Elite laser technicians will carefully evaluate your suitability for the procedure, discuss expectations, and address any concerns. They will also take the time to evaluate your skin type and hair type to determine which laser will offer you the best results. You will be informed of what to expect before, during and after your laser treatments – and you will be provided with a quote and treatment plan. We will then book your first session on the appropriate device.
Most clients feel no discomfort as they undergo laser hair removal. Others describe the feeling as a pinch. Treatment time varies depending on the body area. Treatments on small areas range between 5-15 minutes, whereas larger areas may take between 20-30 minutes.
A series of treatments is required for best results. Sessions are booked every 4 to 8 weeks (depending on the treatment area) to allow for a new cycle of hair growth to appear. Unwanted hair can be maintained in between treatments with shaving. However, methods which remove the hair follicle, such as waxing or tweezing, are not recommended.
